Master, the Tempest Is Raging

Posted by AJ Gubernick on

“And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him,

Master, carest thou not that we perish?

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and

there was a great calm.

“And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

“And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind

and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:36–41.)

“All of us have seen some sudden storms in our lives. A few of them, though temporary like these on the

Sea of Galilee, can be violent and frightening and potentially destructive. As individuals, as families, as

communities, as nations, even as a church, we have had sudden squalls arise which have made us ask

one way or another, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” And one way or another we always hear

in the stillness after the storm, “Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”

We must learn to always have faith in the Savior, even when it looks like our boat is going to fill with

water and sink. There is always a way to get through the trials and problems that we face in life. We

need to have faith that our Heavenly Father will show us the way past the obstacle.

See Yourself in the Temple

President Monson has stated: “Until you have entered the house of the Lord and have received all the blessings which await you there, you have not obtained everything the Church has to offer. The all-important and crowning [...]

Eternal Aspirations

Elder Dallin H. Oaks said, "The kind of marriage required for exaltation is eternal in duration and godlike in quality." I have been studying and learning in depth more about eternal families the last couple of weeks. I guess I had never given much thought to how we define eternal life. After learning more I realize [...]
